APP FRIDAY October 25, 2013

This Friday is full of GREAT apps for Halloween, Telling Time, Fun Puzzles, and Math Concepts.  You really don’t want to miss out on today’s discounted and FREE apps!

——————————————————————————————————–

Todo Telling Time

By Locomotive Labs

Todo Telling Time

(3.99–>0.99) Todo Telling Time is an engaging app with activities to learn different aspects of telling time. Calendar concepts, days of the weeks, time to the hour and minute as well as schedule components. There are six leveled games within the app. Puzzles to solve for sequencing days of week and months. The Ferris Wheel activity helps familiarize the learner with number orientation on the clock face. Practice analog time and memory skills. There is even a quiz activity for practicing newly learned skills! This is a great app which is aligned with common core state standards. I particularly like the colorful graphics within this app. The home screen corresponds with the correct time of day (analog and digital) along with the date which makes a nice application. You will notice that 10:00 pm has an evening sky with a moon and an earlier time of day with a daylight scene. I highly recommend this one! ~Jackie Bryla on 2013-10-23 23:19:30 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

With 30 fun videos, activites, and other things to do and watch your kids will learn quite a bit from this about fire safety with the rescue rangers. I love this and I will be showing this to my kids since we have had a fair bit to do with fires and also as their father helps out as a volunteer firefighter. It is great that kids can find all this information in one handy location with no access to the internet. There are no IAP’s and no external links. Very safe for children. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-10-24 22:31:09 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

Tobi In Spanish In English And Portuguese

By Technolio Inc.

Tobi In Spanish In English And Portuguese

(4.99–>FREE) Tobi In Spanish In English And Portuguese. A wonderful adventure story filled with courage and adventure. With some wonderful bright images, and a professional narrator the story is read about 3 young adventurers who are bought together by 3 special bracelets. Text is highlighted as the story is being read making it suitable for all reading levels. It was however a bit too long for my daughters likes and didn’t keep her engaged right the way to the end. I am hoping to be able to introduce her to it later on when she gets a bit older. However if your kids love adventure stories then this is one for them. It has interactions and activities throughout that work on a range of skill levels, kids can also skip these if they wish. No IAP’s and no external links and the story has the option to be read in 2 languages. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-10-24 21:57:55 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

Night Zookeeper Story Pairs

By Wonky Star

Night Zookeeper Story Pairs

(0.99–>FREE) Night Zookeeper Story Pairs. This is a fun and different way in which to get your children to tell stories. Firstly children play a game of memory this can be played by 1-4 players and if more than one player is playing the winner of the memory game gets to create a story. Choosing from the characters they have collected from the memory game, and the plots or storylines that go with each of these children can then create their very own story. Once they have come up with what they want to say then they record their story tapping on each character as they have included them. Once complete the story will finish and you can listen to this from the recordings section and then start over again. With the different combinations and creativity of children this can be used over and over again. No IAP’s or external links that I could find. A wonderful app. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-10-24 20:54:50 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

(1.99–>FREE) Math Ahoy! is a really engaging game for kids, in which they need to create math equations, so that their ship can avoid being captured by the king’s ships. The directions are clear, and it is a truly engaging way for children to work on their math skills. Bright graphics, the amusing theme and fun animation will keep children engaged in learning. This app has no IAPS, ads, or external links. I highly recommend it. ~Angie Gorz on 2013-10-24 20:46:30 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

The Tooth That’s on the Loose!

By SachManya LLC

The Tooth That's on the Loose!

(1.99–>FREE) The Tooth That\’s on the Loose! is a charming storybook app for young children, with a Wild West theme, all about a wiggly tooth, named T.B. Wiggly. The app has cute illustrations, and animations, and explains the concept of loose teeth for children in a whimsical way. This app is part of the Kite Readers series, so to unlock the activities, you have to become a subscriber, which gives you discounts to other apps, and more. Links to sign up to be a subscriber are secured from children though, and there are no ads, or IAPs. ~Angie Gorz on 2013-10-24 20:31:15 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

Puzzle for Santa – HD – christmas puzzles for kids and toddlers by Tiltan Games

By Tiltan Games (2013) LTD

Puzzle for Santa - HD - christmas puzzles for kids and toddlers by Tiltan Games

(FREE with Free IAP) Puzzle for Santa – HD – christmas puzzles for kids and toddlers by Tiltan Games. Different to their usual puzzles style apps which work on being able to match up pictures. I really like this style where kids have to match up shapes instead on doing normal puzzles. More pieces appear as children progress through each puzzle. The free version comes a couple of free puzzles and the rest are available via IAP. This IAP is not locked from children and neither is access to other apps by the same developer. However they have put a lock on access to settings. If you can get the IAP for free like it is for this app friday it is well worth unlocking the remaining puzzles so your kids end up with 14 fun Christmas themed puzzles to play with. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-10-24 19:58:23 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

By Playrific, Inc.

Fairies: Real & Cartoon Fairy Videos, Games, Photos, Books & Interactive Activities for Kids by Playrific

(1.99–>FREE) Fairies: Real & Cartoon Fairy Videos and More. I love how the developers have gone to the trouble to find 30 childsafe movies, books, games and TV shows based on some fun fairies for kids to watch and play with. They can do this with no access whatsoever to the internet, however making them feel like they are doing a real search on the internet for these things. Brilliant app with some fun movies my daughter just adored watching them. A great safe idea for kids to be able to browse movies and more. No IAP’s or external links. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-10-24 19:47:26 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

The Adventures of Puppup: Lost at the Zoo Interactive Illustrated Kids Story Book for iPhone

By Fletcher Grayson

The Adventures of Puppup: Lost at the Zoo Interactive Illustrated Kids Story Book for iPhone

(1.99–>FREE) The Adventures of Puppup: Lost at the Zoo Interactive Illustrated Kids Story Book for iPhone

A beautifully illustrated story of a child’s stuffed dog’s day at the zoo. When Puppup becomes separated from “his girl,” the zoo animals help him find his way back.

The story has enough interactive features to hold kids’ interest, but not so much as to distract from the story.

Great for building vocabulary of zoo animals. Some ebooks my students only want to hear once. This one they ask for over and over. No ads or in app purchases. Highly recommended! ~Joanna Clancy on 2013-10-24 19:34:55 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

Presto ~ Magic at Your Fingertips

By Tapfuze

Presto ~ Magic at Your Fingertips

(2.99–>0.99) Presto ~ Magic at Your Fingertips. A bit of magical fun for kids with 4 magical activities for kids to play with. These activities though will also work on a range of activities including fine motor skills and sensory touch as well as speech therapy. My absolute favourite activity was the multi-touch particle elements. This was a huge hit and both of my kids loved the way they followed them around the screen and the different things that could be acheived by putting more than one finger on the screen. We also love the magic voice as my daughter is a bit of a show pony and loves hearing herself 🙂 A wonderful app that could be used just for some magic fun or could also be used in a therapy aspect. There are no IAP’s however there are social links and email share links which are locked from kids. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-10-24 19:18:40 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes

Living vs Nonliving : Do you know which ones will grow?

By CJ Educations

Living vs Nonliving : Do you know which ones will grow?

(2.99–>0.99) Living vs Nonliving : Do you know which ones will grow? This fun preschool book will help teach children about things that grown and things that don’t with some fun little rhyming throughout and activities to help reinforce what has been read to them through the story. Also has some fun things included kind of like a pop up book or fold out book. Very fun for kids age 2-3. It didn’t really engage my almost 5 year old but my toddler was quite happy to read through it. There is also a quiz to see what your kids have learnt from the story. There are no IAP’s and all external links are locked from children. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-10-24 18:54:57 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

Tricky Stories: Halloween Fairy Tale – Adventurous Sticker Book for Kids

By Mechtarium OOO

Tricky Stories: Halloween Fairy Tale - Adventurous Sticker Book for Kids

(1.99–>FREE) Tricky Stories: Night Forest — Adventurous Sticker Book Powered by Your Imagination

On initial play, I loved everything about this app and would have been happy to give it 5 stars, however I became easily frustrated in sticker mode. Only to be able to add stickers to the house backdrop seemed limiting and things got cluttered too fast. The beauty of the illustrations got lost in the mess. I would really love to be able to move the stickers I placed when going back to the scenery mode or be able to move them from the front of the house. The beauty, sound quality, and the creative potential are really outstanding, but I am hesitant to recommend this because of the disorganizing features of the sticker mode. I guess I would recommend downloading and hope for an update. The quality is that good to wait and see what happens. ~Jo Booth on 2013-09-29 04:57:54 ==> User rating: 3 Recommended: Yes

Kinder Quizzes for iPad

By Shishir Dubey

Kinder Quizzes for iPad

(1.99–>0.99) Kinder Quizzes for iPad is an ok app. There were a few things I didn’t like about it. First it works on the alphabet quiz. When asking the questions instead of asking which picture begins with the letter, they asked what stands for? During Alphabet play when they asked what stands for H? there was a picture of a jack-o-lantern. It took us a while to work that one out. The games are times so your kids have to answer all questions within a set time frame, there is not a lot of room for thinking. Fairy Land, Antonyms and Singular & Plurals are locked until the previous ones are completed. There are external links from the main screen which are unsecured, there are no IAP’s. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-09-19 22:49:11 ==> User rating: 3 Recommended: No

I also love the fact for teachers where they can download printable versions to play in the classroom. No IAP’s however external links are not locked from children. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-08-15 16:32:58 ==> User rating: 4 Recommended: Yes

SoGaBee’s Math Facts Fun: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division

By Marcel Widarto

SoGaBee's Math Facts Fun: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division

(2.99–>FREE) SoGaBee’s Math Facts Fun: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division. What a wonderful app for learning Maths for kids. I love the flashcard options where you can go through it with your children first as a form of training. Asking them to add, subtract, multiply or divide depending on which equation type you have chosen and then once they have given their answer you can show answer to see if they are correct. This is great for giving them a quick test. The other 2 options of Multiple choice or fill in are also great depending on their level of learning. If they are able to easily do Math equations then the fill in would be best, however if they struggle a bit then the multiple choice would be the best option as it gives them 4 answers to choose from. There are different levels starting from the basics add 1, and working their way up. You can add multiple users allowing this app to be used in a classroom setting or at home with more than 1 child. You can also instead of using their levels customise your own which is great for setting it up to your own child’s abilities. There are no IAP’s and external links are locked from children allowing them to play without worry of them accessing something they shouldn’t be. I highly recommend this app. ~Sharon Turriff on 2013-07-14 22:03:41 ==> User rating: 5 Recommended: Yes
